Chess Perspective

So this week was another perspective project and it was fun because I didn’t have to use my messy Indian ink.  The process shots sucked this time because of the glare on the paper.  I’m very pleased with how this came out.  Playing chess against no one in the water Equals “win”.  I made it out of graphite.  I needed accurate perspective, clearly defined shadows and matching light source, and  I needed to make it interesting. When drawing this I had no reference to chess pieces or people, so it was very hard to progress. When creating the composition I wanted to pay attention to how the eye will track over the piece.

Four Seasons Assignment

This project was like swimming through peanut butter to try and get done.  Simply because I didn’t want to play with the charcoal or Indian ink which I planned on using.  I actually wound up using both.  No process shots this time though because there were four of them and I just wanted to get it over with.  I actually find that I like the Indian Ink once I get used to how it works.  It took some doing, but I kept in mind the fact that “Once you are black, you are black.”  I started really light and slowly worked in layers going darker.  Takes a long time?  No kidding!  I’m supposed to express the four seasons with the lighting and shading and the way they are positioned in each pictures.

My First Time with Gouache

So in my new color working class I was assigned a project that I’d never done before.  It’s been a long time since I worked with paint at all, and I’ve never worked with Gouache.  I was scaring myself with first black and white drawing, which was fail big time… But after a few trials on scrap paper I started my color painting.  I start seeing a good result when I started thinking in terms of color patches.  The final result was ok with me.

Completed painting.

Drawing A Crescent Wrench

I’ve finally been able to be part of a drawing class.  Here is my very first homework assignment given and completed today.  Good to be back in the drawing world again.  Hopefully I can get some feedback on this.

Objective:
Draw one or more tools in one or two point perspective accurately.  Shade realistically the area in the foreground and lessen contrast and shading in the midground until the background is just line.

I used a reference image as well as having the actual wrench next to me.  None of the images Read more »

FilmTrainingEssential’s – Episode #2

Film training Essential’s is a new series of fun film making tips the help fellow students and back yard effects people improve their work. This time I started in it as a Werewolf.

We shot this whole project in one day and it was a lot of fun.

Art Institute Film Project

I’ve began attending the Art Institute and want to develop my skills in Maya mostly.  I have a goal that I’m after.  I’ve also started working on an other film that I will be adding to not only my portfolio, but will be a good piece for everyone that works on it.  It’s in development right now and on the story board.  I’ve not limited myself to a single 11 week term in school to get this done, but rather I’ve set a 90 day release date for this film.  It involves more than good photography this time.  It’s being put together with Maya.  I’m combining real-life actors with my animation.

Web-Site Update and Ai

I don’t need to say that I’ve updated my site, it’s really obvious.  But I want to thank my new school, The Art Institute, for helping me put it together.  I used my website as my final project in my web-design class which gave me a deadline to have it done.  My project was turned in on my own web-space at the school and is a duplicate of this site in html.

Chess Melek

This film is something I will be able to use in my portfolio.  I have taken the second part of Video Production at Lane Community College and created this.  Every shot is a work of art.  I tried my best to pay close attention to the details of photography.  It took all term to story board and over three days to shoot.  I still ran out of time, and wish I could have done more on it.  There is word play in the title Chess Melek.  Melek is Hebrew for King making the title Chess King.  Meleck also is the Hebrew word for Angel, and the main character was a half bread, part human part angel.  Thus the title is “Chess Angel”.

RangerLuke.com

I’ve created a new webpage for my friend Sgt Monroe from the Army.  He’s leaving for Iraq in two months and this site will help him to keep in touch with his friends and family back home.  At this site the artwork is my own too that I designed off of the media he gave me.
